[[Credits]]It has been 1 year since your mother died and a few months since you turned 18. Life has changed substantially for you, but the constant routine of going to school, visiting your mothers grave, and returning home has provided some comfort even if unpleasant. Newham High School is as dilapidated as the rest of this hollowed out town. Though school is nearly behind you the scars borne from apathetic teachers and cruel students will bear witness to your suffering forever. If you had known your father you may have had explanation for your height and gangliness as well as your features. As for your age, well, becoming an adult in a sea of children granted you independence and the ability to sustain now that your mother is gone.

Newham's Catholic Church is simple and rustic with it's pews and pulpit being the focus of the building. You never came here much, but from time to time your mother would get the urge to dress up and pay her spiritual dues on a Sunday. The ceiling fans whir in a constant lazy hum indifferent to the season. Next to the entryway there is a small font filled with holy water, but you are on your search for something a bit more powerful. The last new moon was about 2 weeks ago so if the priest had any kind of dating system you should be able to get what you needed quite easily. It was just a matter of approaching the old man with such a request and coming up with reasons why you would need the substance in the first place.
He spots you as he comes out of the office.
//Oh hello there young one! I haven't seen you since you were a chi-//
You cut him off before he can finish, but what do you say?

//Are you alright?//
''Yes, but not for long if I don't get my hands on some holy water blessed under the new moon. I know this sounds crazy, but we are all in danger. Even if it's all in my head what harm can it do? Please just remember: blessed under a new moon so about two weeks ago.''
The priest ponders a moment, even stops to begin to speak, but ultimately shrugs out a //Perhaps it will help whatever it is that ails you// and goes into his office. He returns a few moments later with several small vials embossed with crosses.
//Here you are! May you go with God.//
You make a quick nod of thanks and make your leave.
Do you [[leave->street]]?
Do you [[return->Aulrey Lake]]
The priest's face illuminates with joy //Of course! Let me go get some for you...//
As he leaves you remind him it must be holy water blessed under a new moon.
//Why is that important? Any water blessed by God will do the trick I assure you!//
Not wanting to reveal the lie nor to draw suspicion you resolve yourself towards hope that he brings the correct liquid. He brings you 2 vials of holy water embossed with crosses. You give him a brief thanks before he leaves back to his office.
Do you [[leave->street]]?
Do you [[return->Aulrey Lake]]?As you make your way down the country road adjacent to the church you hear a scream. Blood rushes to your limbs and chest and your feet begin pounding the ground as you race towards the sound.
Lying on the ground in front of you is no other than Geoffry the fellow student responsible for vandalizing your mother's headstone. He is partially disembowled yet still conscious. Your head becomes fuzzy and you can't quite make out what he's saying as his hands fumble helplessly around the intestines peeking out of his belly.
A harsh growl ahead snaps you out of your fugue state. You draw your weapon and ready yourself to [[fight->street fight]]. You see the creature, more hideous than the last, and realize this one must be older and probably stronger.

<img src="https://plebiantrash.neocities.org/twine/moononlake.jpg" height="360" width="480">
Aulrey Lake looks even more beautiful at night with the full moon's light bounding off the glassy surface. Tonight, however, it is also menacing and a harbinger of evil tainted with the bloody specter of Geoffrey's wolf body limping across the dewey knolls surrounding the lake.
You call out to him
''Get back here!''
but he does not hear you.
About 20 yards from the lakefront he collapses on the ground into a wheezing bloody remnant of a human. You approach with the imbued hatchet in one hand and a clenched fist in the other. It is up to you to decide his fate.
Do you [[kill him]]?
Do you [[spare him]]?
(if: $water is 'knowledge')[Do you [[submerge him]] into the lake's waters? ]
<img src="https://plebiantrash.neocities.org/twine/bloodiedbody.gif">
You grip the hatchet firmly in hand and begin hacking away at the gory sack of flesh. This seems dirtier work than defending yourself and you feel sickened by each blow. The rage inside you from the true knowledge of your mother's death fuels each grizzly impact but there is something hollow there too. When it is over you stand, not proud, but broken. There is a finality here with no substance. You look out over the lake and pray there are more to fight. Your hardened heart now craves this and you suspect it will for some time.
You hear police sirens in the distance approaching and you have a lot of explaining to do. They will probably not believe you but you will come up with a good enough story. Beneath the sirens, almost undetectable, you hear the high pitched whines and howls of dozens of wolves in mourning.
[[The End]]<img src="https://plebiantrash.neocities.org/twine/policecars.gif">
You look down at the near lifeless body of what was once just another bully at Newham High. Lying crumpled at your feet he seems harmless, though your injuries say otherwise. He is a pitiful sight covered in wounds and carnage. This pity appeals to that part of your heart your mother once cultivated. She would have told you to spare his life too. You break down in the field and weep, not just for her, but for this grievous event. The shock of the day's events finally catch up to you and you sob drowning out the sounds of approaching sirens. Surely they will think you mad for wailing in a field next to a bloodied wolfman covered in blood and injuries.
Still, there is compsure there beneath the emotion. You feel a sense of peace and a finality to your mother's death. She can rest easy now with no fear of vandals or evil wolves or terror befalling her only son. You take strength in this concept and stand tall, ready to face whatever comes next.
[[The End]]<img src="https://plebiantrash.neocities.org/twine/drownedwerewolf.gif">
You drag Geoffrey's body towards the lake. He is heavier than you had imagined and it strains your already weakened muscles to carry such a load. Your body aches and your mind aches further. This creature is responsible for the death of your beloved mother and he will pay for his crimes, but you know in your heart that task is not up to you.
As his feet touch the water you feel his body begin to stir so you know you must work fast. By the time you have his head submerged, he is thrashing about trying to free himself. His weakened body is no match for yours. You're not sure how long to keep him under and you don't want him to drown, so when the bubbles and thrashing die down you heave him up in a great thrust out of the water and back onto the land. His naked human form is not impressive in the least compared to his wolf form. After a few moments of no signs of life you wonder if you really did kill him and wave of dread and relief begin to sweep you over. A moment later he coughs and vomits water, raising himself up onto his elbow and looking straight at you.
//What have you done!?//
''I ended this. Hear that? Police our on their way.'' You reference the sirens that are crying out in the distance heading towards the lake.
//I thought you'd have the balls to kill me.//
You know he's baiting you, trying to get you to find your rage, but you stand strong. ''You're going to tell them everything or I'll kill you right here. Drown you and tell them it was an accident. That we're friends going for a swim at the lake or some shit. You're going to tell them how you killed my mother.''
//We'll see. You should have killed me when you had the chance!// He tried to crawl towards you for one final attack but he is too weak and collapses a few inches from where he lays.
You stand up and look out over your city and it's quiet, peaceful
demeanor save the sirens and the undercurrent of mournful wolf wails in the distance. Geoffrey will likely serve time in prison and you will return to whatever existence you are carving out for yourself here. It will be meager and forever tainted by the loss of your mother, but a life she would approve of. You close your eyes and wait.
